Group Calls On EFCC To Investigate Oyo Assembly, Makinde Over N300B Loan

A non-governmental association, the Concerned Youths Movement (CYM) has called on the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) to investigate an alleged approval of a recent N300 billion loan saying the House does not form quorum to approve loan for Governor Seyi Makinde, which made the approval illegal, null and void, and doesn’t represent the wish of majority of the Assembly.

The CYM, in a release issued on Monday, signed by Pastor Tayo Adigun and Alhaji Olaide Kobomoje, Chairman and Secretary, respectively, stated that only 13 Lawmakers out of the 32 members approved the loan.

It said the House comprises 32 members, adding that 13 members who approved the loan didn’t form a quorum, and with that, the approval is null and void and of no effect in the face of the law.

It could be recalled that the Oyo State Assembly member representing Saki West State Constituency. Hon. Shittu Ibrahim revealed on Wednesday how the state legislature approved a new N300 billion loan for Governor Seyi Makinde led administration during an emergency sitting.

The lawmaker, in a post on his Facebook page, criticized the hasty arrangement through which the loan was approved, stressing that the House is currently on recess and not all members were present at the sitting.

He said he was not among the lawmakers who approved the loan of N300 billion for the Makinde Administration.

The CYM in the release therefore said, the EFCC should beam its searchlight into the alleged approval of the loan.

According to the statement, “We are hereby calling the attention of the EFCC to investigate the alleged approval given to the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, to obtain N300 billion by the 13 members of the State House of Assembly.

“We gathered that only 13 members of the 32 members House of Assembly approved the loan. That is illegal. 13 members don’t form a quorum in a 32-member House.

“This illegality must not be allowed to stand. There is a need for a due investigation into the purported emergency approval.

“Any attempt by Governor Makinde to access the N300 billion loan is not only illegal but a bastardization of the rule of law and democracy.
