A Group within the Oyo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, ( PDP), the Concerned Youth Movement, (CYM) on Friday said with the revelation by the former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki that no serious politician with electoral ambition will seek to contest on the platform of the PDP in 2027 is a clear sign that there is no future in PDP.
The Group has therefore urged members of the PDP in Oyo State who have ambition or aspiration to contest the 2027 general election to move to the African Democratic Congress, (ADC) to have a fresh start and achieve their political aspirations.
It could be recalled Dr Bukola Saraki on Wednesday while playing host to the Board of Trustees members of the PDP who are on a reconciliation mission raised concern over conflicting court orders regarding the validity of the scheduled convention, noting that there was no assurance its conduct or outcome would stand.
While receiving the Board of Trustees members in his residence on Wednesday , Saraki said “As a leader, I cannot in all good conscience take or be part of any action that will jeopardize the aspirations of my people.
“In the present circumstance, no serious politician with electoral ambition will seek to contest on the platform of the PDP, not knowing whether his or her nomination will be valid or declared null and void,” Saraki further warned.
The CYM in a release issued and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Laide Ajao said the exposure by Dr Saraki that any nomination for future election based on the planned convention of the PDP slated for Ibadanland this weekend may not be valid should serve as a last warning to the PDP members in Oyo State that there is no future in the PDP
It said with the insistence of the Faction loyal to the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde that the convention will hold, there seem to be no future for any PDP members who have ambition of contesting the 2027 election.
The CYM said the situation becomes intensely confusing with the actions of Governor Seyi Makinde who it said has shown little concern for the ambitions and political futures of others, but is focusing solely on his personal interest, “a trait that reflects poor leadership and disregard for collective progress”.
CYM said in the statement, “We appeal to the teeming PDP members across the state to wake up and face reality: the PDP as a party has effectively been buried by the actions of greedy and self-centered leaders who have placed personal gain above the greater good.
“We are calling on all PDP members with genuine political aspirations to move en masse to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) which stands today as the only viable and progressive platform in the state. The ADC offers a fresh start free from the factions, divisions, and endless internal crises that have crippled both the PDP and APC.
