The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has secured the governorship ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the state.
Daily Nigerian reports that Gwarzo’s emergence followed a strategic political arrangement within the party after a major contender, Nasiru Gawuna, accepted the Kano Central senatorial ticket.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who said the decisions were based on equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence, as well as the need to strengthen unity within the Kwankwasiyya movement and the party.
Gawuna had earlier rejected the senatorial offer but later reconsidered after consultations with his political allies and stakeholders.
His decision effectively cleared the path for Abdussalam to clinch the NDC governorship ticket in Kano.
The development positions Abdussalam as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the governorship election.
Party sources said the arrangement was part of efforts to strengthen the NDC structure in Kano and avoid internal division before the polls.
