The recently appointed head coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George, has emphasized the importance of support from both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and passionate football fans in Nigeria to achieve success in his new role.
The NFF had on Monday confirmed the appointment of the 53-year-old’s former international.
Finidi, who expressed his delight with the appointment, promised to give his best to make his stint successful.
“I am happy with my appointment as Super Eagles Head Coach and I believe with the support of NFF and Nigerians, we shall achieve a lot. I still have to meet with the NFF and tidy up things before I have a formal media chat,” Finidi was quoted by Completesports.com.
The former winger is expected to sign a two-year contract with the NFF.
His immediate task is to ensure the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former African champions are yet to record a win in the qualifiers after playing two consecutive draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
The Super Eagles will face South Africa and Benin in their next two games in the qualifiers in June.
