The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reportedly relieved Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin of his duties as Force Public Relations Officer, just half a year into his tenure in the role.
In a report by an online medium Whistler, the decision was approved on Thursday, March 5, 2026, though the reason behind the move was not made public at the time of this report.
The change came shortly after a new leadership took over the police.
On Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially inaugurated Tunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
Disu was recently appointed as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police after the removal of Kayode Egbetokun, who had served in the position since 2023.
Findings showed that Hundeyin’s removal was carried out on Thursday morning as part of adjustments taking place within the police leadership.
A senior source within the force confirmed to the publication that the Force Public Relations Officer had been removed earlier in the day.
The source explained that changes in key positions are common when a new Inspector-General takes charge of the police.
As of the time of filing this report, it was not clear who would replace Hundeyin as the next Force Public Relations Officer.
Hundeyin was appointed as the spokesperson of the police by former Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun.
The police officer, who is from Badagry in Lagos State, studied English Language at Lagos State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
He later obtained a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
He also received training in civil-military coordination at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre located in Jaji, Kaduna State.
Hundeyin has served as the Police Public Relations Officer at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.
He also took part in the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020.
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the International Public Relations Association, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria.
