IGP Disu Sets Up Elite Eight-Person Panel to Oversee State Police Rollout

The Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has formally established an eight-member senior committee tasked with supervising the rollout of state policing and the introduction of a new policing vision.

Disu, following his confirmation as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, held his first formal engagement with senior officers on Wednesday and inaugurated the committee.

Professor Olu Ogunsakin was appointed to lead the eight-member state police committee.

Addressing the top hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force, IGP Disu declared that leadership is not about position but responsibility.

According to him, professionalism and accountability must no longer be mere slogans, but guiding principles that shape conduct and operations across commands nationwide.

Disu, who also announced plans to strengthen internal oversight mechanisms, directed that the Public Complaint Unit and X-Squad be empowered to operate independently, stressing that every Nigerian must be treated with dignity, fairness, and justice, regardless of status or background.

The new police boss further explained that the decentralisation of police functions will enable the various levels of government to participate actively in security.

Recall that the Nigeria Police Council unanimously ratified Disu’s appointment, clearing the way for his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.
