In-form Nigerian Striker Bamidele Yusuf Shining In Serbia

Nigerian forward Bamidele Yusuf is fast making his way up among the best stars to have come out of Africa in Europe, following his incredible form in the 2024/25 season for Serbian club Vojvodina.

The 23-year-old has been on the ascendancy with the Serbian SuperLiga club, where he’s firing them up with goals in the domestic scene.

He currently has eight goals plus two assists, with four of those goals coming in a historic away win over Nozi Pazar on 29th of November.

The four-goal haul made him the second Nigerian after Vincent Eze (against Cukaricki) to have scored four goals in an away match for Vojvodina.

While one of Eze’s goals was a penalty, all of Yusuf’s goals were from open play and he achieved it under an hour, scoring in 19th, 66th, 75th, and 78th minutes.

According to him, it’s only the beginning of greater things to come, as he begins to rewrite his story in Europe.

“Above all, I am very happy because we won,” Yusuf told the club website.

“This was an extremely important match for us, we prepared well, and we were maximally focused on claiming all the three points. We knew what we wanted from the first minute, and we knew how to reach that goal.

“Of course, it means a lot that I managed to score four goals. I wouldn’t be able to achieve that without the help of my teammates and the coach.

“Never in my career have I scored four goals in a match. The feeling is unbelievable. I don’t plan to stop now, I want to contribute to the team’s success even more.”

Though Vojvodina are currently seventh in the league table, the Nigerian believes they are still within reach of their ambition to play in Europe next season just as they are making progress in the Serbian Cup.

The Nigerian also scored a brace in a 3-1 win over Grafičar, to help them zoom into the quarter-finals of the Serbian Cup.

He netted in the second and the 25th minute while Caleb Zady Sery added the third in the 79th minute.

Yusuf arrived at Vojvodina before the start of the season from Radnicki Nis where he spent six months, and showed quality with an impressive return of six goals and five assists in 16 matches.

Before arriving in Serbia, the Nigerian player played for Portuguese side Estoril and Spartak Trnava in Slovakia where he first plied his trade after arriving in Europe from Nigeria in 2020.

He reflected on his move to Serbia after struggling to find his feet in Portugal.

“Playing and living in Portugal was tough due to some ups and downs that I had while I was there but I’m glad I’m playing better now and scoring goals,” he said.
