Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the application by the three political parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to become one party and be known as All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a statement issued by the secretary to the commission: ‘INEC found that the parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger and has therefore granted their request, Abdullahi A. Kaugama said.
The statement also noted that INEC had approved the withdrawal of the individual certificates of the three parties, and the issuance of a single certificate to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
