Ipswich Announce Aluko As Part Of First Team Coach

Former Super Eagles striker Sone Aluko has been named as one of the first team coaches of newly promoted English Premier League side Ipswich Town.

The 35-year-old retired from football at the end of last season having scored four goals in 62 appearances for the Blues and has been handed a first team role after completing the required coaching course.

“The club is pleased to announce that Sone Aluko has joined Kieran McKenna’s backroom staff as a first-team coach,” Ipswich announced on Monday.

“His playing days at Town saw him set consistently high standards and contribute to the first-team environment, working closely with his teammates and coaches on the way to more than 50 appearances across all competitions and back-to-back promotions.

“Sone also progressed with his coaching badges – along with other members of the first-team squad – as a player and will now begin working with Kieran and the other coaches.”

During his career, Aluko represented numerous clubs including Aberdeen, Rangers, Hull City and Fulham before arriving at Portman Road in 2021.

Aluko scored four goals in 62 appearances for the Blues.

He was one of 10 Ipswich players to start a bespoke UEFA B coaching course provided by the PFA last year and spent a lot of last season helping the analysis team.
