Israeli PM Slams World Leaders at UNGA Over Recognition of Palestinian Statehood
During Friday’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s strong condemnation of nations that recently recognized Palestine’s statehood was met with boos from the audience.
Netanyahu, during his speech, condemned countries that have decided to recognize Palestinian statehood, labelling their actions as “shameful, sheer madness, and insane.”
He argued that such actions would only embolden terrorism across the world.
His statement, however, prompted disagreement from some members of the audience, with some of the delegates staging a walkout, and the protest continued until a UN official had to call for calm before the Israeli Prime Minister could continue his speech.
Netanyahu argued that recognizing Palestinian statehood is tantamount to encouraging terrorism against Jews and innocent people worldwide.
He compared the push for Palestinian statehood after Hamas’s October 7 assault to offering al Qaeda a state near New York City after the September 11 attacks.
Netanyahu said Israel would not allow nations to “shove a terror state” down their throat.
“Your disgraceful decision will encourage terrorism against Jews and against innocent people everywhere. It will be a mark of shame on all of you.
“What you’re doing is giving the ultimate reward to intolerant fanatics who perpetrated and supported the Sabbath massacre.
”Giving the Palestinians a state one mile from Jerusalem after October 7 is like giving al Qaeda a state one mile from New York City after September 11.”
“We will not commit national suicide because you don’t have the guts to face down a hostile media and antisemitic mobs demanding Israel’s blood,” he said.
The Israeli Prime Minister added that “biased media, radical Islamist constituencies and anti-semitic mobs” are influencing world leaders, condemning the war in Gaza.
