IWD: Lawmaker Charges Govt. To Stop Bias Against Women

A member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe has called on governments at all tiers to break the bias and misconceptions against women, and ensure gender equality in political leadership.

Akande-Sadipe said this on Wednesday in commemoration of the 2023 International Women’s Day, adding that this step will promote gender equality and ensure a sustainable tomorrow.

Rep. Akande-Sadipe also celebrated the incredible strength, resilience, and determination of Nigerian women across the globe who are making significant contributions to our society.

“In a society that is still dominated by men, we continue to face numerous challenges and obstacles in our personal and professional lives. But we must not let this discourage us from achieving our goals, we must continue to be optimistic and persistent in pursuing our dreams and aspirations”, she said.

Recounting her fair share of discrimination, as a woman in politics, Akande-Sadipe said, “I have faced my fair share of adversity. During the just concluded election, I experienced threats and intimidation from male opposition. However, I refused to be cowed and stood strong and fearless. I am grateful for the support of those who stood by me in the face of adversity”.

She applauded women who continue to fight for equality and justice in their communities.

The lawmaker also urged women to follow in her footsteps and make their mark on the world.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I urge all women to support and uplift one another. We must build each other up and help each other succeed. we must strive to build our careers and support other women in politics to increase our participation in governance.
Let us continue to break barriers and shatter stereotypes, proving that women are just as capable as men in all aspects of life. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society where women’s voices are heard, and their contributions are valued”, she added.

“Finally, I want to call on fathers to support mothers, mothers to support mothers and boys to support girls. We all have a role to play in creating a world where women are valued and respected. Let us work together towards that goal. Our collective effort can bring about a better society where women can thrive and contribute to the development of our communities”.
