Kelechi Iheanacho Signs As Sevilla New Player

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has completed his move to Sevilla on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old arrived at the La Liga club for his medical on Tuesday, which was concluded on Wednesday, followed by the signing of the contract that makes him the club’s fifth summer signing after Nigeria teammate Chidera Ejuke, Peque, Saúl and Lokonga.

The former Leicester City striker signed for two seasons, with the option for one more, arriving on a free transfer after his time at Leicester City.

In 2017, Iheanacho joined Leicester City, a club where he had already spent some time on loan in their youth academy after arriving in the Old Continent.

With the then recent Premier League champions in 15-16, he played a total of 232 matches in all competitions, with 61 goals and 34 assists during this last period, extended until this last campaign 23-24.

The new Sevilla striker has also played a total of 19 European competition matches: seven in the Champions League, 11 in the UEFA Europa League, and one in the Conference League.

As for his numbers with the senior team, it is worth noting that to date he has played 55 matches and scored 19 goals.

His greatest achievement came in 2015 with the conquest of the U-17 World Cup in Chile, helping Nigeria to their fifth record triumph and bagging the golden ball as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Although it may seem that Sevilla is not completely complete in its forward line, the signing of Iheanacho comes to replace En-Nesyri, while another of the summer signings, like Peque, although his usual position in Santander was that of attacking midfielder, for his new coach he counts as a forward. That is, he will occupy the space left by Rafa Mir.

The attacking front line would already be complete. And that is before the month of August has even started.

The Nigerian is expected to earn 4m euro annually at the club.
