Bill Gates Commends Nigeria’s Afrobeats, Reveals Daughter’s Comments About Burna Boy, Rema
Co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr Bill Gates, has commended famous Nigeria’s Afrobeats stars, Burna Boy and Rema for taking the country’s music industry into the world map.
The Microsoft co-founder revealed that Afrobeats from Nigeria has gained popularity across the world.
The billionaire said he recalled a conversation with his daughter, Phoebe when he was about to come to Nigeria.
Gates who spoke while delivering his opening address at an event in Lagos State, ‘Advancing Africa: Unleashing the Power of Youth in Science and Innovation’, said Phoebe told him he would be lucky to see Nigerian Afrobeats stars, Burna Boy and Rema during his stay in Nigeria.
He said, “Of course, being here in Nigeria, I can’t help but mention the amazing creativity that goes on here.
“Afrobeats from Nigeria are popular everywhere. When my daughter Phoebe heard I was coming to Nigeria, she said, ‘You’re lucky to go see Burna Boy and Rema.’”
Gates also recalled how he saw Davido and Wizkid perform during his last visit to the country.
“But I also remember, the last time I was here, I did get to see Davido and Wizkid perform and I was quite impressed with that. So, my kids think I’ve come to a very hip place,” he added.
