‘Kids Say The Darndest Things’ Berths In Nigeria, Shops For Wittiest TV Host
As it makes its highly anticipated debut in Nigeria, Kids Say the Darndest Things, which has become one of the most captivating family shows in the world, is currently screening candidates to anchor the programme.
Available information reveals the owners of the show are looking for an intelligent and savvy television personality who is at home with children.
According to sources close to the production company, Kids Say the Darndest Things would be a half-hour-long show to be broadcast on television channels nationwide. While the show derives most of its hilarity from the humour and unconscious wit of children, the presenter is also an active participant as he engages the kid guests in unscripted and funny banter.
The premise of Kids Say the Darndest Things is that children often respond to life’s questions in the most unexpectedly smart and amusing ways. The programme features kids between the ages of 2 and 10 as they respond to these posers thrown at them by the host.
Over the years, the show has grown immensely in popularity, owing to its hilarious segments such as ‘One-on-One’, in which the presenter squares off with one of the children in an interview-style discussion; the ‘Panel Segment’, featuring three kids with the presenter; and the ‘Hidden Camera’ segment, which has become a regular knee-slapper.
Created in the United States, the original Kids Say the Darndest Things was first hosted as a standalone television programme by comedy legend Bill Cosby as a special on CBS television in 1995. It was inspired by a segment of the same name in Art Linkletter’s radio show House Party and television series, which aired mostly five days a week from 1945 to 1969.
Then, from 1998 to 2000, the show returned for full seasons. Now it’s a celebrated TV staple in many countries around the world including countries such as Australia, India, Singapore, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
“There’s nothing else like Kids Say the Darndest Things on TV right now. It is such an amazing concept that will most likely bring back family viewing times that we all used to have. A truly heartwarming and entertaining show, it will remind us all that no matter where they come from, kids are pure souls. And they are funny, too,” the source said.
Kids Say the Darndest Things is expected to premiere on Pay TV and local channels in the next quarter.
