Kwankwaso Urges Trump to Support Nigeria With Technology Amid US Military Threat

Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and a former presidential candidate, has raised concerns regarding recent comments made by United States President Donald Trump. Trump reportedly referred to Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, November 2, Kwankwaso said he was “deeply worried” by the tone of the U.S. President’s comments, urging Washington to offer constructive support rather than threats that could worsen tensions.

“I have noted with increasing concern the heightened pronouncements on Nigeria by President Donald Trump. This follows his designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern,’” he wrote.

The former Kano State governor stressed that Nigeria’s ongoing security problems stem from criminality and lawlessness, not religious or ethnic differences.

“Nigeria remains a sovereign nation facing security challenges caused by outlaws, not by religion or ethnicity,” he stated.

“The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs.”

Kwankwaso noted that careless foreign statements risk deepening division in an already fragile environment, calling for international understanding of Nigeria’s complex security realities.

Kwankwaso urged the United States government to provide technical and intelligence support to Nigeria in its fight against insecurity instead of making declarations that could strain diplomatic ties.

“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarise our country,” he said.

He emphasised that partnership in security technology, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism would better serve both nations’ interests.

The NNPP chieftain also called on the Nigerian government to respond to the situation through strategic diplomatic engagement, rather than public confrontation.

“The Nigerian government should consider appointing special envoys from its distinguished diplomats to engage the American government,” he advised.

“Additionally, it is necessary to appoint permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests on the international stage.”

According to him, sustained dialogue and mutual respect remain vital for maintaining Nigeria’s relationship with the United States and other global partners.

Kwankwaso appealed to Nigerians to remain united and resilient in the face of external criticism and internal challenges.

“To my fellow countrymen, this is an important moment where we should emphasise unity of belonging over division. God bless Nigeria,” he said.

The former senator reiterated that national cohesion is essential to overcoming insecurity and ensuring Nigeria’s continued progress.
