Lagos Bans Smoking In Public Places

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, January 20, 2014 passed a bill to ban smoking in public places in the state.

The bill specifies penalties for whoever breaks the law shall be liable to N10, 000 to N50, 000 fines or imprisonment. 
The bill has also been sent to the governor for his ascent.
The law makes it compulsory for any person involved with the management of public place to put a sign of ‘No-Smoking’ in their offices.
Some of the places provided by the bill include toilets, tertiary institutions, public transportation vehicles, shopping centres, stadia and restaurants.
Part of the bill stipulates that “any person who repeatedly violates the provisions shall on conviction be liable to a fine of N50, 000 or six month imprisonment or both.”
