The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has declared an additional postponement of the deadline for submitting individual annual income tax returns, pushing it back from April 14 to April 21, 2026.
The agency disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, thanking taxpayers for their continued compliance and commitment to fulfilling their tax obligations.
The statement was signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS.
According to the statement, the decision to grant the additional extension followed a significant increase in traffic on the LIRS eTax platform as more taxpayers attempted to meet the previous deadline.
The agency explained that the extension was necessary to allow taxpayers adequate time to complete their filings successfully.
“Following the earlier extension granted to April 14, 2026, the Agency has observed a significant increase in traffic on its eTax platform as more taxpayers endeavour to meet the filing deadline,” the statement said.
“In view of this development, and to ensure that all taxpayers are provided with adequate opportunity to successfully complete their filings, LIRS hereby announces a further extension of the deadline, now set for April 21, 2026.”
The tax authority described the new deadline as a final extension, urging taxpayers to take advantage of the opportunity to fulfil their statutory obligations.
The agency emphasised that filing annual income tax returns remains a legal requirement for all eligible taxpayers.
“Taxpayers are reminded that the filing of annual income tax returns remains a statutory obligation and are encouraged to take advantage of this final extension to fulfil their civic responsibility,” the statement added.
The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all tax returns must be submitted electronically through the LIRS eTax platform, which remains the only approved channel for filing.
Taxpayers were advised to complete their submissions through the official portal at https://etax.lirs.net.
