Lagos Man Allegedly Sells Infant Sibling for ₦2m

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly selling his sister’s one-month-old baby for N2 million.

The suspect, who resides in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, reportedly claimed that he carried out the act to raise funds for their mother’s burial.

According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria, the baby’s mother later reported the incident to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, subsequently directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigation.

Speaking on Friday, the suspect admitted to the offence, attributing his action to financial hardship.

He claimed that his sister initially consented to the arrangement and that he met the woman who bought the baby through Facebook.

The suspect explained that after negotiations, the buyer asked him to bring the child to the Mile 2 area of Lagos.

“I went there with my sister and a man who said he was sent by the buyer collected the baby.

The woman then transferred N2 million to my account,” he said.

He further disclosed that he gave his sister N500,000 from the money, while the remaining amount was used to organise their mother’s burial.

However, he said his sister later demanded that the baby be returned, alleging that he had used charms to convince her to sell the child.

“My sister later claimed she was not aware of the sale and reported me to the police, which led to my arrest,” he added.

The suspect also said he had no personal relationship with the buyer and did not know her address, noting that the phone number she used had become unreachable since the transaction.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, Dayo Akinbisehin, confirmed that investigations were ongoing.

He added that the suspect would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of the investigation.
