Lagos Moves to Profile, Repatriate 396 Beggars After Sanitation Enforcement

The Lagos State Government has announced the detention of 396 beggars following a coordinated crackdown aimed at enhancing environmental sanitation, public safety, and orderliness throughout the state.

This was as it announced that those arrested will be profiled, provided with necessary assistance and returned to their respective states.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared via his X page on Tuesday.

Wahab said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps as part of the government’s sustained efforts to improve environmental sanitation and curb illegal activities.

He said the apprehended persons would be profiled before receiving appropriate assistance where necessary.

The commissioner added that they would subsequently be handed over to the appropriate authorities for safe return to their respective states.

Wahab said the exercise underscored the state’s commitment to maintaining public order, protecting the environment and improving safety.

He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to sustain enforcement operations aimed at ensuring environmental cleanliness and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
