Lagos Police Launch Probe As Bullet-Filled Parcel Sent to First Bank MD

The Lagos State Police Command has announced that it is actively investigating an incident in which a package containing two live ammunition rounds was delivered to the home of FirstBank’s Managing Director, Oluwasegun Alebiosu.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed this during a routine press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, describing the incident as a serious security concern requiring thorough investigation.

The development comes amid earlier denials from a source within the bank, who had dismissed reports of the incident as false.

The police commissioner said the bank chief alerted security agencies after a parcel received on his behalf by a gateman was opened and found to contain two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Fatai said detectives immediately commenced investigations upon receiving the report and have since been working to determine the source of the package and the motive behind its delivery.

“The managing director reported the matter to the police after discovering two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition in a parcel collected on his behalf,” the police boss said.

“The case is still under investigation, and we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves.”

The commissioner said investigators were examining various angles, including whether the parcel was intended as a threat or linked to any criminal activity.

He disclosed that detectives were pursuing several leads and analysing information provided by the complainant.

According to him, the bank chief had identified individuals who he believed might possess useful information that could assist investigators.

“Detectives are working to determine the origin of the parcel, identify those responsible and establish whether the incident was intended as a threat or linked to any criminal activity,” he said.

Fatai stated that no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.

However, he assured that forensic and intelligence-driven investigations were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the delivery.

“Right now, forensic and intelligence-driven investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the delivery and bring anyone found culpable to justice,” he added.
