Lagos Police Recover 25 Vehicles, Arrest 21 ‘One-Chance’ Suspects in Two Months

The Lagos State Police Command has recorded major operational successes between December 2025 and January 2026, arresting dozens of suspects, dismantling criminal syndicates, and recovering stolen vehicles, illegal firearms, and suspected counterfeit currencies across the state.

At a press briefing in Lagos, the Command said the achievements were the result of intelligence-led policing, targeted raids, sustained surveillance, and rapid tactical responses to criminal activities.

“Within the period under review, the Command recorded significant successes through intelligence-led policing and prompt tactical responses to criminal activities across Lagos State,” the police said.

25 Vehicles, Firearms Recovered

In a statement by the Command PRO, SP Abimbola Adebisi,  a total of 25 vehicles were recovered during the two months. The vehicles were reportedly stolen, fraudulently converted, unlawfully removed from motor parks, or smuggled into the state.

Suspects were arrested for offences including conspiracy, armed robbery, stealing, assault occasioning harm, and threats to life.

In addition to the vehicles, the police recovered several weapons and other incriminating items, including:

  • Four locally fabricated dane guns
  • Thirteen cut-to-size pistols
  • Nine live cartridges and one expended cartridge
  • Bundles of suspected counterfeit Nigerian and foreign currencies
  • Fetish charms and other dangerous weapons

“These achievements underscore the effectiveness of our sustained operational strategies aimed at dismantling criminal networks and removing illegal firearms from circulation,” the Command noted.

21 ‘One-Chance’ Kidnapping Suspects Arrested

One of the major breakthroughs recorded during the period was the arrest of 21 members of a ‘one-chance’ kidnapping and robbery syndicate in Idimu, Alimosho area of Lagos State.

The arrests were made in January 2026 following credible intelligence on the activities of the gang.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two Toyota Corolla vehicles, a Toyota Camry, fetish charms, 21 bundles of suspected fake US dollars, and 12 bundles of suspected fake Euros.

Police said the operation significantly disrupted the syndicate’s ability to carry out coordinated attacks across the state.

Suspect Arrested Over Bomb Threat to Schools

The Command also announced a breakthrough in the investigation of a bomb threat message circulated on January 21, 2025, which targeted three schools—two in Ikeja and one in the Ogombo area of Lagos.

The threat caused panic among parents and school authorities. However, swift intelligence gathering and digital forensic investigations led to the arrest of one suspect.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed he had lost his phone before the threat was issued. Police said investigations contradicted his claim.

“Further investigations established that the same mobile line was actively used by the suspect to communicate with members of his family during and after the period the threats were sent,” the Command revealed.

The suspect’s father reportedly confirmed that his son was known for truancy. The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Ongoing Investigations

Police said several suspects arrested during the period are still assisting investigations. Ongoing efforts are focused on identifying accomplices, uncovering interstate and cross-border links in vehicle-snatching syndicates, tracing the source of recovered fake currencies, and verifying the rightful ownership of all recovered vehicles.

The Command also said it is strengthening oversight of car-hire services and informal transport arrangements often exploited by criminals.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Lagos State Police Command assured residents that it will “continue to work tirelessly to protect lives and property and ensure the safety and security of all residents across the state.”
