Lagos State, the largest  and most vibrant economiccity of Nigeria, located in the South-Western part of the country is believe to occupy over 18million people from different country across the world. 
It was created on May 27, 1967 by virtue of State (Creation and Transitional Provisions) Decree No. 14 of 1967, which restructured Nigeria’s Federation into 12 states.
 
Although Lagos state is the smallest state in Nigeria, with an area of 356,861 hectares of which 75,755 hectares are wetlands, yet it has the highest population, which is over five per cent of the national estimate.
The United Nations estimates that at its present growth rate, Lagos state will be third largest mega city the world by Y2015 after Tokyo in Japan and Bombay in India.
The rate of population growth is about 600,000 per annum with a population density of about 4,193 persons per sq. km. In the built-up areas of Metropolitan Lagos, the average density is over 20,000 persons per square km.
The people of Lagos State speak different languages from Yoruba and English.

The present Governor of the State is Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN)
