LASTMA Confirms 11 Casualties in Lagos BRT Bus, Truck Accident

At least ten people were injured when a fully loaded high-capacity BRT bus overturned within the dedicated Bus Rapid Transit lane on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway near Iyana-Ipaja.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, in a post on its official X account, reported that the accident took place around 7:45 a.m. on Friday.

“A fully loaded high-capacity bus fell on its side inside the dedicated lane (BRT lane) with a record of 10 casualties (Victims), which they were taken care of,” the post read.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance and transport the victims to nearby healthcare facilities.

As of press time, details on the cause of the accident and the condition of the victims are yet to be disclosed.

However, authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution as they navigate the area.

Similarly, the agency reported that another loaded truck fell at Durbar Junction on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, completely blocking the road inward to Alakija.

It was learnt that the accident has caused significant traffic disruption, with authorities diverting vehicles through the service lane from Orile heading towards Durbar.

Motorists are advised to follow the diversion and exercise patience as efforts are underway to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow.

In another post, LASTMA disclosed that there was a road crash involving two vehicles that occurred opposite Northwest, heading inward Ajah.

LASTMA attributed the accident to over-speeding, resulting in one injured victim.
