LASTMA Saves Mother, 9-Year Old Son Under An Upturned Sand Truck At Iyana-Ipaja


A mother and her 9-year-old son were saved by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA officials under an upturned fully loaded sand truck on Tuesday around Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway by Danco Filling Station inward Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos.
The driver of the upturned sand diesel truck (AGL 48 YD) lost control and got upturned as a result of reckless driving with a mother and her 9-Year old son including the driver seriously injured.
In a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said that immediate investigation revealed that the driver of the truck lost control as a result of reckless driving and got upturned while dragging Right Of Way (R.O.W) with another heavily loaded containerised trailer inward underneath Iyana-Ipaja Bridge.
LASTMA Officials from Zone 16 led by Salau Akeem (Alpha) carried out the rescued operations while Ambulance from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) took the injured victims including the truck driver to Gen Hospital for immediate medical treatment.
Police men from Ile-Epo Police Division provided security backup till the upturned truck was fully evacuated from the road for free vehicular movement.
The General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Bakare Oki however appealed to motoring public particularly truck drivers to maintain speed
limits and stop dragging right of way with other road users.
