Lauren James Receives PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year Award

Lionessess and Chelsea women player, Lauren James, who is also a sister to Chelsea’s new captain, Reece James, has won the 2023 Professional Footballer’s Association (PFA) Women’s Young Player of the Year Award.

The 21-year-old forward had an incredible and excellent campaign in the 2022/23 season as she helped the Blues to the FAWSL and FA Cup double with some inspired performances over the course of the season.

James joins Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who won this year’s Men’s Young Player of the Year award, as testaments to England’s budding youth and bright future.

The Chelsea forward also had a superb showing at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, helping England to the silver medal.

Although she courted controversy after being sent off against Nigeria for a stamp on Super Falcons defender, Michelle Alozie.

The Chelsea star had 7 goals contribution (5 goals and 2 assists) in 18 FAWSL games for Chelsea last season, and will be hoping for a better return in the new season, with added responsibility and game time from the departure of Danish forward Pernille Harder.

Being only 21 years old, James could be set to dominate the Young Player of the Year category like Hemp, given that she has three more years of eligibility for the award.
