Leaving Your Smartphone With Young Children Increases Your Vulnerability To Cyber Attacks, Cyber Safety Advocate Warns Parents

The founder & CEO of a non-profit, internet safety magazine, Mr. Rotimi Onadipe, has told parents to avoid leaving their smartphones with young children because it exposes them to cybercrime.
He stated this in Ibadan on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at a weekly sensitisation program on cyber safety, tagged “Say NO to internet abuse, say YES to internet safety”.
According to Mr. Onadipe, many parents leave their smartphones with young children, particularly those between the age of four to ten to play games, watch videos and chat on social media, unknown to them that they are ignorantly exposing their devices to cyber attacks.
He added that young children, particularly those between the ages of four to ten are the major targets of cybercriminals for all kinds of cyber attacks such as email and password hacking, malware, viruses, spyware, phishing attack, and hacking of social media, among others.
“In today’s technology age, one of the best cyber security practices that parents must adopt is to avoid leaving their smartphones with young children, particularly those within age four to ten because they are the most vulnerable to all kinds of cyber attacks due to their addiction to smartphone and social media,” Onadipe said.
