Legendary Super Eagles Coach Onigbinde Passes On at 88

Adegboye Onigbinde, who once served as head coach of the Super Eagles, has passed away at 88.

Onigbinde passed on to eternal glory on Monday night.

The respected tactician came into prominence after guiding the then Green Eagles to second position at the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Later in 1984, he took over as coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club in Ibadan and took the Club to the final of the Africa Club Champions Cup. They lost the finals to Zamalek of Egypt.

Onigbinde was appointed Super Eagles head coach for the second time in 2002 following the sacking of Amodu Shuaibu.

He led the Super Eagles to the 2002 FIFA World Cup where the team failed to progress beyond the group stage.
