Loneliness Made Me Ask a Man Out, Says Actress Rashidat Anjorin

Nollywood Actress and filmmaker Rashidat Anjorin, widely recognized by her stage name Indomie, has opened up about a dark chapter in her life during which feelings of isolation and emotional turmoil led her to battle severe depression and contemplate suicide.

Appearing on the Talk to B podcast, the actress shared how isolation affected her mental wellbeing and left her feeling overwhelmed.

According to Anjorin, there was a point when she disappeared for days because of the emotional burden she was carrying.

“Being alone is a disease except for those who don’t know. I was so depressed that for three days I was missing and nowhere to be found. I wanted to end it all,” she said.

She explained that in search of human connection, she did something she never imagined she would do — approach a man first.

“I made a move towards a man, something I had never done before. My shop is down there. I do hair and pedicures. I didn’t know what to say. I think the guy suspected that I wanted to have sex with him.”

The actress, who is over 40, said her experiences changed her perspective on relationships and support systems, stressing that life is not entirely about financial success.

“When someone dies, it takes six people to carry the coffin. If those six people are in your life to support your progress, then you understand why companionship matters. Everything is not about money,” she said.

Anjorin also revisited some of the challenges she faced before becoming stable, recalling an incident where she ended up in police custody despite being the victim.

“It was my money they stole, and it was me that was kept in the cell,” she recalled.

The actress expressed gratitude to colleagues who supported her during difficult times, especially actress Funke Akindele.

“Aunty Funke gave me money to go and buy those things. I went to Abeokuta to get my pots, and I started making sales. Once I start cooking the noodles, everyone will start buying,” she said.

“I am using this opportunity to appreciate Funke Akindele, Taiwo Adebayo, Sodiq Adebayo and Blackman. I salute them. They helped me. I can say they helped my career because being known as Indomie in this industry, God used them for me.”
