Makinde Presents ₦891.9bn 2026 Budget to Oyo Assembly

The Oyo State House of Assembly is set to consider the ₦891,985,074,480.27 budget proposal for 2026, which was presented by Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday.

Presenting the document tagged “Budget of Economic Expansion,” the governor described it as a strategic push to position the state for global market participation and sustained economic growth.

He said, “Of the total budget, capital expenditure accounts for ₦502.8 billion, representing 56.7 percent, while ₦389.1 billion is allocated to recurrent expenditure, representing 43.3 percent of the budget.”

The infrastructure sector tops the list with ₦210.02 billion, while education gets ₦155.2 billion, representing 17.40 percent of the estimate.

The health sector is allotted ₦70.8 billion, while agriculture receives ₦19.9 billion, representing 2.24 percent of the entire proposal.

Makinde highlighted several key projects, including AfCFTA-driven initiatives, the Oluyole Free Trade Zone, Special Agricultural Zones, dry ports, logistics hubs, the Ladoke Akintola Airport upgrade and the 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, noting that they are designed to strengthen the state’s economic base.

He added that Oyo will celebrate its 50th anniversary in February 2026 under the theme “Renewal: A celebration of where we have come from and where we are going,” emphasising that the state’s most valuable resource remains its people and their ingenuity.
