Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town on Sunday as new head coach Ruben Amorim failed to secure the win he wanted in his first Premier League match in charge.
The Red Devils went ahead through Marcus Rashford inside 90 seconds at Portman Road, prompting delirium among the fans as they chanted the new boss’ name with gusto.
Yet Ipswich, who won at Tottenham prior to the international break, deservedly leveled through the excellent Omari Hutchinson’s deflected strike before halftime as United failed to build on their good early work.
The Red Devils controlled possession in the second half but chances were scarce for the visitors in particular, the game resembling more of a training exercise for the United players as they got to grips with Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

With his team 12th in the standings and eight points off the top four, Amorim will want his players to acclimatise quickly if he is to salvage something from this season.
