‘Maoni Mtaani 2026’ In Kenya: Promoting Dialogue As A Pathway To Change

DW, together with Cape Media (TV47 and Radio 47), is hosting Maoni Mtaani 2026, a timely public discussion on the power of dialogue in addressing societal challenges and fostering peaceful civic engagement.

Taking place at Mount Kenya University, Mombasa Campus, in Mombasa, Kenya, on Thursday, 04 June 2026, the event brings together voices from civil society, government, media, and youth leadership under the theme:

“Voices, Not Violence: Jinsi Mazungumzo Yanavyoweza Kuleta Mabadiliko (How Conversations Can Bring About Change)”

The discussion will explore how constructive dialogue can serve as a tool for resolving tensions, strengthening democratic participation, and driving positive social change. With a particular focus on young people and community voices, the panel will examine how inclusive conversations, both online and offline, can counter polarization, build trust, and create pathways for meaningful reform.

Panelists:

  • Hussein Khalid – Director of Vocal Africa and human rights lawyer, widely recognized for his advocacy on accountability, civic rights, and justice, including work against extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances
  • Jonathan Wepukhulu – County Executive Committee Member (Youth, Gender & Sports), Mombasa County, overseeing youth empowerment, gender inclusion, and community development initiatives
  • Mwahanje Masound – Student leader at Mount Kenya University and founder of Umoja Amani Organization, actively engaged in youth advocacy, peacebuilding, and community cohesion
  • Ruby Kache – Influencer and radio presenter from Kenya’s coastal region, known for her culturally resonant digital content and engagement with youth audiences

The event will be broadcast via Cape Media’s TV47 and Radio 47 and streamed live on the DW Kiswahili Facebook page, with simultaneous co-posting on the partner’s Facebook channels, enabling audiences across Kenya and beyond to join the conversation.

The panel will be moderated and held in Swahili.
