Matthias Jaissle Is Newcastle’s New Head Coach After Deal Confirmed

Newcastle United have appointed Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, with the Austrian signing a contract that runs until June 2030.

The club reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, paying €11 million in compensation to secure Jaissle’s release. It brings to an end his spell in Saudi Arabia, where he built a solid reputation as a tactically sharp and progressive coach.

Jaissle, 36, arrives at St. James’ Park as one of the more exciting managerial appointments in the Premier League this summer. He first made a name for himself at Red Bull Salzburg, where he won back-to-back Austrian Bundesliga titles and guided the club through the UEFA Champions League group stage. His work there caught the attention of bigger clubs across Europe, and Newcastle have now moved quickly to make him their man.

The four-year deal suggests the club’s hierarchy sees him as someone to build around — not just a short-term fix. Under the ownership of PIF, Newcastle have shown a willingness to think long-term, and handing Jaissle a contract through to 2030 fits that pattern.

He inherits a squad with genuine quality and a fanbase hungry for silverware. The expectation at Newcastle has grown considerably since the Saudi-led takeover, and Jaissle will be well aware of what’s demanded of him.

Pre-season preparations are already underway, and the new head coach is expected to take charge of training within the coming days.
