Medical Social Workers Seek Timely Implementation Of Govt. Circulars On Health Issues

The Association of Medical Social Workers of Nigeria (AMSWON) has called on heads of health organizations to ensure timely implementation of relevant circulars of government on all health matters to avoid industrial disharmony in the health sector.

 
As it commended President Muhammadu Buhari for quickly intervene in dosing the tension of secession and attempt by some groups to breakaway from Nigeria. 
 
AMSWON which is the umbrella body of all Medical Social Workers in the country in a communique made available to journalists on Tuesday after its Socio-Scientific conference and Annual General Meeting held in Sokoto also commended Buhari for the fight against the menace of corruption. 
 
The association while commending the National Assembly for the passage of the Social Work Bill the conference also afforded members of the association to elect national officers who will pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years. 
 
Those elected were; Abubakar Alhassan Bichi who was re-elected as (National President); Dr. Ibe Thomas (National Vice President), Ellu Daniel (National General Secretary), Oluwagbemiga Oyinlola (National Assistant General Secretary), Saidu Ibrahim (National Auditor) and Lanre Olanipeku (National Financial Secretary). 
 
Others are; Adeyemi Adekola (National Public Relations Officer), Mujahideen Adegbola (National Editorial Secretary), Mrs. Gbadamosi Elizabeth (National Treasurer), Martha Kummiap (National Welfare Officer) and Kayode Ogendegbe (National Ex-Officio).
 
The communique issued after the conference reads in part, “We sincerely appreciate all the CMDs for releasing members of AMSWON under them to attend this conference. We wish to thank the host community for their hospitality throughout this year’s conference.
 
“We commend the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari for the fight against Corruption, and other Vices as well as ensuring that the Country remains one singular entity.
 
“We thanked the National Assembly for the passing of the Social Work Bill and for supporting Social Work Services in Nigeria.
 
“AMSWON commend the Governor of Sokoto State, Right Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his contribution to Social Services as well as her Excellency Hajiya Mariya Tambuwal for her programmes on Women and Children.
 
“AMSWON call on all Chief Executive of Tertiary Health Institutions, State Owned Hospitals, and Private Hospitals to ensure the implementation of relevant circulars of government on all health matters timely to avoid industrial disharmony in the health sector.
 
“AMSWON calls on all Medical Social Workers in the country to unite as one indivisible professional body and contribute their quota to the national growth and development.
 
“Medical Social Workers should be seen to build and promote peace within and outside the country.
 
The association also called for involvement of Medical Social Workers in the care of the internally displaced persons in the country. 
 
“Medical Social Workers should be fully involved in the care of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the country.
 
“AMSWON call on all Medical Social Workers in the country to update their knowledge and training in Social Work regularly.
 
“It was agreed that Medical Social Workers in Nigeria should ensure more effort in the counseling of Youths on Drugs and Substance Abuse.
 
“AMSWON call on government at all levels to ensure employment of more Professional Social Workers in all Health Care Settings in Nigeria for better Medical Social Services and Basic Support to all Nigerians.
 
“AMSWON commend his eminence the sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, Mni, for preaching peace and religious harmony in the country”.
