In a tragic follow-up to the Saint Academy school building collapse in Jos, Plateau State, the devastating news of parents passing away after losing four children in the disaster has shocked the nation.
The sad incident, which occurred on Friday, claimed 22 lives and injured 120, drawing widespread grief and outrage.
Parents who lost their children in the incident could not bear the loss and have since died, adding to the heart-wrenching tragedy.
Giving an update on micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter), a user with the name @nuelumahi posted that a mother lost four children.
He said “Omo, today! How do they tell this woman 4 of her children are late? Argh!
“It is well oh!”
After some hours, he posted that the mother of the four deceased also passed away after hearing about the death of her children.
“We’ve confirmed that she (the mother of the 4 kids) has passed on! Mercy oh Lord!!! Omoooooo!!??”, the user posted.
About two hours later, the user gave an update again saying, “Hate to be a carrier of bad news, but guess what? Her husband just joined her 🙂. So an entire family has died now. It is well.”
Reactions on social media have been filled with sorrow and calls for accountability.
One user lamented, “They dropped their kids in school not knowing it would be the last time,” while another expressed, “The way I shouted! This is heart-wrenching. A whole family. Lord, rest their souls.”
Many are calling for justice and stricter building safety regulations, with some suggesting severe penalties for those responsible for constructing the building.
The incident has not only highlighted the dire need for improved infrastructure and safety standards in schools but also underscored the broader issue of governance and accountability in Nigeria.
As the country mourns this profound loss, there is a growing demand for reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
In a recent news, many are feared trapped as another building collapsed on Saturday morning in Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
