Reports have it that the sum of about N35m has allegedly been recovered from the group of armed robbers who attacked five banks in Edo State on Thursday, February 24, 2022.
The robbers had raided the banks located in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North-East Local government Area of Edo State.
Scores of persons were killed during the attack that lasted for hours in the area. Among these were police operatives and scores of passers-by and civilians caught up in the sporadic shooting. The robbers also attacked a police division in the area during the incident.
Meanwhile, reports from Edo State reveal that shortly after the robbers fled the scene; youths in Ubiaja, a community in the Esan LGA, were able to block Ubiaja Road by the rail line. The development forced the robbers to abandon their cash-laden vehicles off the rail line and flee in motorcycles. Consequently, the vehicles and cash recovered were taken to Ubiaja police station where the total sum counted so far was pegged at N35 million.
The development was confirmed by Bello Kotongs, spokesperson of the Edo state police command. He said the recovered money was currently in the custody of the police.
