Nigeria Beat Liberia 90-9 In U-18 AfroBasket Qualifiers

Nigeria’s U-18 women’s basketball team delivered a stunning performance on Friday, crushing Liberia 90-9 in their FIBA U-18 AfroBasket Zone 3 qualification clash in Abidjan.

The Young D’Tigress’ impressive win against Liberia sets a high bar as they prepare for their next game against hosts Ivory Coast.

The outcome of this game will be crucial in determining which team secures the coveted spot in the final round of the tournament.

Nigeria, Liberia, and the hosts are vying for the sole ticket to the 2024 FIBA U-18 Women’s AfroBasket scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, later in August.

Côte d’Ivoire, which has previously earned two silver medals in five appearances at the U-18 tournament are eager to make a return to the podium for the first time since 2014. They are counting on their home advantage to push them past Nigeria and Liberia.

Nigeria, having only appeared in the final rounds of the U18 championship twice—2008 and 2010—where they won a silver medal, are keen to make a significant return to the competition after their absence since 2010.
