No National Caretaker Committee Exists in PDP, Says Wabara

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, has dismissed claims suggesting the party was contemplating the formation of a National Caretaker Committee to oversee its activities.

He said any report of a caretaker committee for the PDP at the national level is not real.

Wabara maintained that the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), which emerged at the Ibadan National Convention, remains the valid and recognised leadership of the PDP.

The PDP chieftain insisted that any rumour of a caretaker committee is sponsored by impostors who are collaborating with external forces to destroy the party.

Wabara further said that as the Chairman of the PDP BoT, which is the conscience of the party and custodian of its assets, the BoT was not aware of any caretaker committee arrangement, saying such an arrangement is uncalled for.

He said, ”The authentic National Chairman of PDP remains Barrister Tanimu Turaki. The National Working Committee has not indicated that there’s anything like a caretaker committee.

And of course, there cannot be because we have legitimately and constitutionally conducted the National Convention of the Party.

“Board of Trustees of the Party is the conscience of the Party, and it’s not in contention at all. So, as far as we are concerned, the said National Caretaker Committee is not real. Such a thing is not under consideration.”

Wabara, a former Senate President, added that the PDP is waiting for the court judgment on the party’s leadership.

He promised that they would abide by the court verdict.

The BoT Chairman insisted that the PDP would resist any attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
