Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali trolled his Libyan counterpart, Murad Al Wuheeshi, following Nigeria’s dramatic late win in Uyo.
The Libyan keeper had used every trick in the book to delay the game, but it was all for nothing when Nigeria scored a last-minute winner, leaving the visitors heartbroken.
Super Eagles deal Libya late heartbreak
Libya came into the game as clear underdogs, sitting 82 places below Nigeria in the FIFA rankings.
Despite this, they held their own at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium for most of the match, frustrating the Super Eagles with a solid defensive setup and well-timed antics.
From the first minute, it was obvious that Libya came prepared to grind out a result, relying heavily on defence and time-wasting, with Al Wuheeshi leading the charge by constantly needing medical attention every time he had the ball.
Their defensive efforts seemed to be paying off as they kept the Super Eagles at bay for 86 minutes, but a late strike from substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru shattered the visitors’ hopes to give Nigeria a deserved 1-0 win.
Nwabali’s Post-Match Shade
After the final whistle, Stanley Nwabali didn’t let the opportunity to tease his Libyan counterpart pass him by.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), he posted, “Who come wise pass,” a sly dig at Al Wuheeshi’s attempts to waste time against Nigeria ultimately backfiring, leaving his side empty-handed.
With this win, Nigeria now sits comfortably at the top of Group D with seven points, while Libya is stuck at the bottom with just one point from three games.
The two sides will face each other again on Tuesday in Benghazi, with Nigeria just one win away from booking their spot at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
