Ogun State Gets First Pedestrian Bridge, Flyover
Thursday 24th January 2013 is a day many residents in Abeokuta the capital of Ogun State will not forget so soon as many important personalities joins the State governor Sen. Ibikunle Amosun to commission the first ever pedestrian bridge and flyover worth N260 million and N1.3 billion respectively in the state.
The four-lane overhead bridge begins at the end of Lalubu Road and opens into the elaborate international standard six-lane Ibara-Totoro Road, which cost the state N1.3billion, with modern features, such as drains, median, greenbelt, walkway, street lamps, modern bus-stop and an air-conditioned pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge cost N260 million.
The commissioning of the projects was witnessed by former head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, former Chief of General Staff, General Oladipo Diya (retd), the national chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Bisi Akande, former governors of Lagos and Ekiti states, Chief Bola Tinubu, Chief Niyi Adebayo, Senator Biyi Durojaiye and Senator Gbenga Obadara, and many others as part of promises made by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led-government in the state.
Former head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan during his speech commend the Amosun led-government for contributing to the future economic growth of the state.
He lamented the poor maintenance culture to public property and attributed it to the poor condition of infrastructure across the country.
“Today’s event shows that the state government is committed to the socio-economic development. We should continue to invest in social infrastructure,” he added.
