Olubadan Chieftaintancy Review: Olaosebikan Seeks Elders Intervention

A former Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan has appealed to Elders in the ancient city of Ibadan to intervene on the lingering crisis resulting from the review of Olubadan Chieftaintancy title. 

 

He made the appeal while featuring on a radio programme tagged crossfire on Fresh fm.

 

Olaosebikan who was the Chief Press Secretary to the late Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lam Adesina  said it is high time the elders speak out on the issue and find lasting solution to the crisis.

 

He particularly called on a former President of d Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief Bayo Oyero, Ambassador Saanu, Chief K. K Olatunji and the incumbent President of CCII, Chief Yemi Soladoye to intervene in the matter to forestall further degeneration of the crisis.

 

Alhaji Olaosebikan said the elders should do all within their powers to see that the peace already being enjoyed in the city is not disturbed in any from.

 

To Olaosebikan, what was required is for a dispassionate assessment of the chieftaincy which has added more values and magnificence to the Olubadan of Olubadan and the city .

 

It could recalled that the State government under the leadership of Governor Abiola Ajimobi reviewed the chieftaintancy title and elevated some Balees and high Chief to the position of Obaship which met with strong opposition from Olubadan.

 

Since then it has been accusation and counter accusation from the government, Olubadan and newly promoted Obas.

 

The recent one in such was the 21 days ultimatum issued to Olubadan by the new Obas that if Olubadan refuse to refrain himself from some activities they would dethrone him while some Mogajis (family compound heads) also gave 7 days ultimatum to the new Obas to retract the utterances.

 

Olaosebikan said it was unfortunate that such is happening in the traditional sector which made him felt bad as indigene of Ibadan.

 

Hence, at this period in time heralding the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, there is need for Elders to comes in and make peace between the waring parties.

 

He maintained that silent among Elders would do anyone no good, so as a result they should speak out and find lasting solution to the issue.

 

While pointing accuse finger on nobody Olaosebikan said people should not be unduly sentimental about the issue at hand both looking at the economic and political gains that could arise from the present arrangement.

 

Adding that Senator Rashidi Ladoja, shouldn’t have gone against the Oba in Council as a democrat argued that he ought to have gone with d majority while still having his dissenting voice heard.
