Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has backed Ruud Van Nistelrooy to continue at the club as a coach, citing the Dutch striker’s relationship with the players.
Following the sacking of Erik ten Hag as Manchester United coach, the Red Devils promoted Van Nistelrooy to the interim coach role.
They have since announced Ruben Amorim as the more permanent replacement for Ten Hag, and he will assume the role officially from 11th of November.
In his time as interim boss, the Dutch coach has led Manchester United to two victories and a draw, with the team showing impressive form under him.
While there were speculations that the former striker, who had previously held a head coaching position before accepting the assistant role at Old Trafford, would leave upon Amorim’s arrival, Van Nistelrooy has dispelled the notion, stating his openness to work with Ten Hag.
Onana, the Red Devils’ Cameroonian shot stopper, has now supported Can Nistelrooy’s continuation, explaining that the Dutch is a good coach, and hopes INEOS will keep him on.
“I’d love Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay even with Amorim, 100%,” Onana told TNT, per Fabrizio. “He’s a very good guy, a very good coach and he expects a lot. But at the end of the day, it’s not something we can decide because the club makes the decision.”
