Opportunities Available For Skilled Youths In Nigeria, Diaspora — NBTE

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), on Tuesday, said opportunities abound for certified skilled youths in Nigeria and in the diaspora, adding that global economies are now driven by skills.

The Executive Secretary, NBTE, Prof. Idris Bugaje, made this known while commending the Federal Government through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, on the inclusion of the National Skills Qualifications in the public service, according to a statement made available to Punchng in Abuja.

The statement was signed by the Head of Public Relations, NBTE, Fatima Abubakar.

It read in parts, “This singular move will encourage Nigerian youths to get up-skilled as opportunities abound in not only the private sector but now the public sector.

“Today, global economies are driven by skills and many opportunities abound for certified skilled youths in Nigeria and the diaspora.”

The statement read further, “The Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework is a system for the development, classification and recognition of skills, knowledge, and competencies acquired by individuals, irrespective of where and how the training or skill was acquired.

“The system gives a clear statement of what the learner must know or be able to do whether the learning took place in a classroom, on the job, or less formally. The framework is the structure within which the National Skills Qualifications operate.

“NSQ is designed to promote lifelong learning through understanding occupational learning routes and qualifications and how they relate to each other, providing access to vocational education and training opportunities, making progression routes easier and clearer, and improving career mobility.”

Bugaje noted that the NSQs are now “awarded not only in technical and vocational institutions in Nigeria but available for the informal sector through the Recognition of Prior Learning.”
