Oyo: NULGE Debunks Conclusion Of Election 

The National body of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) had debunked a report that the election to usher in new executives in Oyo State has been counted and concluded before it was put on hold.

Speaking with journalists in Ibadan on Sunday on why the election was put on hold, the National Trustee of the Union, who was saddled with responsibility of conducting the election from the NULGE National Secretariat, Comrade Abimbola Babalola said the results were still on the process of sorting numerically when the court injunction was served on him.

According to him, “We are still in the process of sorting out the results numerically, then there was a pressure that there was a court order stopping the conduct of the election and I asked for the prove.

“And the prove was given to me, when I saw the court order, there was nothing I can do again, I have to stop sorting the results. I am the one to announce the results and I winners but when we have not counted the results, how can we alot numbers to candidates, talkless of filling result form or announcing the winners.

“We are even yet to open presidential ballot boxes because we started from the rear, the lowest position, so I don’t know where that media report came from, that numbers have been allocated to candidates before the election was put on hold.

“It was untrue, misconception and misrepresentation of fact. I don’t know where to that media got its report, maybe it was deliberately done to sqeue up clandestine act”, Comrade Babalola said.

It could be recalled that the Industrial Court of Nigeria in the Ibadan Judicial Division, Holden at Ibadan stopped the conduct of the election to usher in new executives of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oyo State Chapter.

The election was billed to hold on 6th and 7th November, 2019. Though investigation revealed that the conduct of the election has commenced on Wednesday 6th, 2019 in Saki before court order was served same day at NULGE Secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, hence, the election brought to an halt.

The suit stopping the election was filed by some members of the Union, Comrade Ayanleke Kehinde Oluwasegun, Comrade Akinola Olaitan Gbolagade and Comrade Oyewumi Olaoye as claimants.

While the respondents are outgoing President of the Union in Oyo State, who is also the current Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the State, Comrade Sikiru Bayo Titilola-Sodo for himself, also representing the entire state officers and members of the executives of Oyo State Chapter.

Others in the suit as respondents are the State EXCO of NULGE, Oyo State Chapter, NULGE National office, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel for himself as well representing the National Executives of the NULGE.

In the suit No: NICN/18/77/2019 at the Industrial Court, Holden in Ibadan under Justice Opeloye Ogunbowale, the claimants upon this motion ex parte, dated 5th November, 2019 praying the court restraining the respondents from conducting the NULGE election, Oyo State Chapter scheduled to hold on the 6th and 7th of November, 2019, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice dated 10th October, 2019.

Delivering the ruling on ex parte order sought by the claimants, after hearing Ahmed Opasola for the claimants, Justice Opeloye Ogunbowale restrained all the defendants from conducting the election pending the determination of the substantive suit.
