Oyo Workers Honour Makinde, Suspends Industrial Action

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has honoured the incoming Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde by calling off strike action embarked upon by its members over the failure of the outgoing governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to pay their salary and arrears

The Chairman of the NLC in Oyo State, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo announced the suspension in a press conference held at Labour house, Ibadan, the state capital on Monday.

He emphasised that some of the demand of the workers have been on the table of the outgoing government for the last one to two years, adding that workers in Oyo state had been tolerant, thinking that the outgoing government would have a change of heart and grant their demands.

“The strike came in the belief that with political will, the remaining number of days would still birth a good life for the workers, our strike action was not intended to intimidate or embarrass the incoming government as some people may want to insinuate.”

Titilola-Sodo who said the Union was calling off the strike to pave a way for smooth take off of the governance by the incoming governor, noted that Engineer Seyi Makinde is a well-bred, well nurtured person.

He expressed optimism that Makinde as a well breed, cultured and lover of the masses who never pride himself over others would addres the plight of Oyo workers.

According to Titilola-Sodo, “In defence to this man of honor and to assure Engineer Seyi Makinde of the good intentions of Oyo State workers, the strike action is hereby suspended, and workers are hereby directed to resume immediately”.
