The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate caucus supports the party spearheading a coalition of opposition forces for the 2027 elections.
The position was made known on Tuesday by the leader of the caucus, who also doubles as the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Senator Moro submitted that the PDP is big enough to accommodate all other parties interested in forming a coalition for the 2027 elections.
As the biggest opposition party, the PDP is robust enough to accommodate all parties interested in forming a coalition. We are a renewed and vibrant party present in every corner of the country, and we are not averse to working with others to strengthen democratic values. “The PDP should drive the coalition if and when it becomes necessary,” Moro stated.
The target of the coalition is to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking further, the lawmaker dismissed insinuations that the PDP is on the verge of collapse due to the wave of defections and internal crisis that have affected the party in recent times.

He submitted that the party remains strong and united despite recent challenges.
On the challenges and internal disagreements in the PDP, Moro argued that such issues are not peculiar to the PDP, adding that the issues are already being addressed.
He expressed confidence in the reconciliation committee led by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in resolving the lingering internal disputes within the party and ensuring the PDP is competitive ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are addressing the few contradictions that exist at the national level,” the senator said.
On the possibility of Nigeria drifting towards a one-party state, Moro warned of the dangers such poses to Nigeria’s democracy.
