PDP Slams EFCC for Arresting Tambuwal, Claims It’s a Political Witch Hunt

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been criticized by the Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for inviting and detaining former Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal.

The EFCC had on Monday invited Tambuwal, who governed Sokoto State for eight years and previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, over alleged financial misconduct and illegal withdrawal during his tenure.

In a statement on Tuesday morning signed by its Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, the Sokoto PDP described Tambuwal’s arrest as a politically motivated move aimed at silencing opposition.

The opposition party claimed that the EFCC was on a fishing expedition revived from old phantom cases.

It stated that the arrest and detention was part of a wider plan by the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government to intimidate political opponents and weaken growing opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The PDP said: “The so-called investigation is nothing more than a fishing expedition, revived from an old phantom case that has failed to produce evidence in the past.

“It is the handiwork of political actors in Sokoto and Abuja who are desperate to smear Tambuwal’s enviable image and force him to abandon his stand against misrule.”

The party said Tambuwal’s administration was marked by fiscal discipline and transparency.

It said the anti-graft agency was carrying out selective prosecution, ignoring “genuine corruption cases” involving ruling party members.

The PDP called on the EFCC to live above board, urging its supporters and the people of Sokoto State to remain calm but resolute in the demand for genuine democracy and good governance.

The party stated that Tambuwal’s integrity cannot be shaken by politically motivated probes.
