Plateau Govt Declares 48-Hour Curfew in Jos North Following Fatal Attack
The Plateau State Government has enforced a 48-hour curfew across Jos North Local Government Area in the wake of the fatal assault on the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, which occurred on Sunday.
The residents in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State were thrown into panic on Sunday evening after suspected gunmen launched a deadly attack on Gari Ya Waye community, leaving many people feared dead and several others injured.
The attack, which occurred at about 7:50 pm, saw heavily armed assailants storm the community and open fire on residents.
The sound of gunshots sent residents fleeing in different directions as the attackers unleashed terror on the area.
Although the exact number of casualties has yet to be confirmed, sources within the community said several people were killed while many others sustained gunshot wounds.
The decision to impose a curfew was announced in a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap.
According to the statement, the curfew takes effect from 12 midnight of March 29, 2026, and will remain in force until April 1, 2026.
The state government described the incident as a tragic security breach that led to the loss of lives and injuries to several residents.
The administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked.
“Following the tragic security incident that occurred at Gari Ya Waye community Angwan Rukuba today Sunday 29th March resulting in the loss of lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries, the Plateau State Government in conjunction with security agencies wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect,” the statement said.
The government assured residents that security agencies were already taking necessary measures to restore peace and track down those responsible for the attack.
“The government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemns this barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens and assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement added.
Authorities also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies during the curfew.
“Citizens are urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing any useful information that may aid ongoing investigations,” the statement concluded.
