The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis’s funeral will take place at 10:00 am (0800 GMT) on Saturday in St Peter’s Square.
The 88-year-old Argentine pontiff died on Monday, less than a month after being discharged from a five-week hospital stay for double pneumonia.
World leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, have confirmed their attendance to honour the late Catholic leader.
Following the ceremony, the Pope’s coffin, crafted from wood and zinc, as per his wishes, will be taken into St Peter’s Basilica and later transferred to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome for burial.
