President Tinubu Convenes Strategic Meeting with Council of State, Police Council

President Bola Tinubu has called a strategic meeting that will include the Council of State and the Police Council.

This development was made known in a statement released on Monday by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

The statement, signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the SGF office, Segun Imohiosen, said the meeting, scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025,  aims to discuss matters of national importance and key issues affecting national security and policing.

“The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, has extended an invitation to members of the Council of State and Police Council to a hybrid strategic meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025.

“According to the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr Emanso Okop Umobong, the meeting aims to discuss matters of national importance and key issues affecting national security and policing“, the statement read.

The meeting details are as follows:

– Date: Thursday, October 9, 2025

– Meeting with the Council of State: 1:00 pm
– Meeting with the Police Council: 2:00 pm
– Venue: Council Chambers, Aso Villa

The statement conveyed the President’s request for members to participate either physically or virtually.

It added that the high-level meeting underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

The meeting comes weeks after President Tinubu confirmed plans to establish State Police.

The Nigerian leader declared that the creation of state police has become unavoidable as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against insecurity across the country.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while receiving a delegation of prominent Katsina indigenes led by Governor Dikko Radda, the President directed security agencies to reassess their strategies in Katsina State, which has been hard-hit by banditry.

Tinubu disclosed that more advanced military equipment, including drones and surveillance technology, would be deployed, alongside enhanced training for newly recruited forest guards.
