President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly terrorist attack on villagers in Worro that claimed multiple lives.
The President made this known after meeting with Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to receive a briefing on the incident. In a statement released today, President Tinubu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly and beastly” act of terror.
“I condemn in the strongest terms this cowardly and beastly attack. The gunmen are heartless for choosing soft targets in their doomed campaign of terror,” the President stated. “Their actions offend our humanity, our faith, and our shared values as a nation.”
The newly deployed military command will spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, tasked with neutralizing the terrorists and protecting vulnerable communities in the area. According to the President, the attack was particularly heinous as victims were killed for refusing forced indoctrination into extremist ideology.
“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” President Tinubu said, adding that “Nigeria will never surrender its people to extremism and terrorism masquerading as faith.”
The President has directed enhanced collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide immediate relief to the affected community and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice. “They will not go scot-free,” he warned, referencing previous successful operations against terrorist elements.
Extending condolences to bereaved families and the Kwara State government, President Tinubu assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting communities. “We will protect our communities, defend our values, and defeat those who seek to divide us through terror,” the Commander-in-Chief declared.
The attack on Worro village has sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria, with calls intensifying for stronger security measures in rural communities vulnerable to terrorist incursions.
